New SANIGRIND System Offers Wider Choice
By Fitting All Conventional Water Closets
GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA — Home and business owners can now install any conventional water closet - regardless of make, model, style or color - virtually anywhere they like with the new SANIGRIND MACERATING TOILET SYSTEM from SFA Saniflo Inc.
Macerating, "above-floor" technology makes it possible to install a water closet or build an entire bathroom atop any finished floor - wherever it is convenient to the owner - without having to break through that floor to make plumbing drainage connections. But instead of using a special, rear-spigot toilet, as required by other Saniflo models, the new SANIGRIND is designed to work with a standard bottom-outlet water closet. That means it can accommodate any conventional toilet available today: American Standard, Briggs, Eljer, Gerber, Kohler, Mansfield, Toto - SANIGRIND will fit all of them.
"Plumbing contractors can now give their residential and commercial customers not only the convenience of macerating technology for creating new bathrooms, but also complete freedom of choice in the brand, design and color of water closet they want to use in that new bath," says Saniflo president Johan Bouwer.
Raised-floor installation: Instead of routing the flush water through a drain in the floor, the SANIGRIND system moves it through the bottom outlet in the toilet bowl to the macerator pump. This pump is contained in a small plastic box that is positioned on or inside the wall behind the toilet.
Like other models in the Saniflo line, the SANIGRIND macerator pump is positioned at floor level. However, the toilet itself must be set on a raised platform a few inches above the floor to allow proper drainage through the bottom outlet. SANIGRIND can efficiently discharge wastewater not only from a toilet, but also from a hand basin, bathtub and shower, even a clothes washer (indirectly through a laundry tub). But these fixtures must also be positioned a few inches above the macerating pump unit at floor level. (See photo.)

Similar to Saniflo's Sanibest model, the SANIGRIND is a grinder device with a cutting blade made of hardened steel, designed to handle waste and toilet tissue, as well as larger items accidentally flushed down the toilet, such as strands of wool or sanitary napkins (tampons). The blade rotates against a stationary, perforated base plate, so that waste is quickly and easily dispersed through the base plate's holes and into a 3/4-inch or one-inch discharge line to a soil stack or septic tank.
While minimizing the risk of blockages in the unit and in the discharge line, the pump and macerating action remain relatively quiet, with a noise level comparable to that of a conventional toilet re-filling.
Pumping power: Certified by CSA International for plumbing and electrical use in both the United States and Canada, the SANIGRIND system can pump effluent 18 feet vertically when it is installed below the sewer line; or 150 feet horizontally (gravity fall) to the sewer stack - or a lesser combination of these two distances. These pumping distances provide home and building owners with greater flexibility in locating a new bathroom in relation to the soil stack or the septic tank.
Although one of the most powerful units in the Saniflo lineup, the SANIGRIND macerating toilet system is still low-consumption, using an elongated bowl that flushes the standard 1.6 gallons (six liters) per flush.
Installs anywhere: Like the other macerating products in the Saniflo line, the SANIGRIND allows the construction of bathrooms where installation is otherwise impossible or cost-prohibitive because of below-floor drainage requirements. With macerating technology, a new bathroom can be created wherever it is most convenient for the owner: in a basement, attic or garage; underneath stairs or inside a newly remodeled space.
